I wish there was the Internet when I became a student of UP Los Baños, 1959 – and each student, such as in the top image, provided with a laptop. I wish the personal computer (PC) was already invented when I taught college at the Xavier University College of Agriculture (XUCA) 1969 – XUCA is most memorable as it was where I first taught organic farming and one of my students, Nicanor “Nicky” Perlas took it to heart; later, Nicky’s organic practice won him The Right Livelihood Award 2003 for “his work as an environmental activist” (Wikipedia, en.wikipedia.org). (Aside: Yes, publicly he acknowledges me as his teacher-inspirer.)
Yes, reboot UP System Education! UP instructors should be
knowledgeable with MS Office; teach them Machine-Assisted
Learning Intelligences (MALIs)! MALIs should be easy – in each class,
group the students into 5, say, each with a PC – just make sure at least 1 student
knows well how to use the laptop.

From “Academics (UP Los Baños, uplb.edu.ph):
The university
provides leadership [in] higher education institutions in its traditional
strongholds of agriculture and forestry, as well as in the areas of
biotechnology, natural resource management, engineering, food science, computer
science and information technology, environmental science, and nanotechnology.
Wow! That is all news to me today, Friday, 07 April 2023,
some 58 years after my graduation in 1965 with my BSA major in Ag Edu.
I studied to be a teacher: BSA major in Ag Edu. Graduating
in 1965, many years afterwards, I had to teach myself my digital abilities
today: writing, editing, formatting, desktop publishing – the works! I taught
high school in my hometown Asingan, Pangasinan; I taught college at the Xavier
University College of Agriculture (XUCA) – I wish the information superhighway
was already invented in those days.
I already was very good at
typing manually; I started teaching myself digital skills on Innocents Day
1985, starting with WordStar
Version 1. Today, at 82+, suddenly I have come to realize that the Internet-Intervening
Years have been there to help teach any subject under the sun!
How? Start with thinking intelligently in any subject! Make
it exciting!
Here is Steph Arnaldo
of Rappler pushing for teaching a
child to become optimistic, as according to psychologist and relationship
counselor Lissy Ann Puno (07 Oct 2021, “Glass
[Half-Full]: How To Raise An Optimistic Child, According To A Psychologist,” Rappler, rappler.com,
source of lower image). “An optimist is “a person one who can see the good in
any situation and stay hopeful amidst challenges.”
Thanks, Ms Lissy! “Optimism” (in another term) happens to
belong to one of the 9 Multiple
Intelligences (MI) taught by Harvard professor Howard Gardner that we should be using to teach young and old
to become intelligent in their own rights – see #4 below:
1. Bodily-Kinesthetic
– “Body-Movement Smart”
2. Existential – “Life Smart”
3. Interpersonal – “People Smart”
4. Intrapersonal – “Self Smart”
5. Linguistic-Verbal – “Word Smart”
6. Logical-Mathematical – “Number/Reasoning Smart”
7. Musical – “Sound Smart”
8. Naturalistic – “Nature Smart”
9. Spatial – “Picture Smart”.
With
MI, do you see that MALIs is right?!@517
